Viewing References

| Tags | Search for tags. After selecting a tag, the encoded query string that matches references associated with that tag displays in the search box. |
| Trash | Deleted references. References can be restored using the Restore feature. |

The number of references which appear on the page is displayed at the top of the page and be changed to view 25, 50, 100 or 500.
Four view options are available: Normal, Table, Full, and Citation.
View can be Customizes to include Folders, Tags and Added by label (available in shared folders).
Pagination on the bottom of the page enables movement between pages.
Normal view
Minimalist view. Each reference's associated folders and tags display, whether the reference was added by another user, as well as an icon if access to the full text is available. Users can see when the reference was Added or Last Modified, depending on which view criterion is applied: Date added, or Date modified.
Table view
Minimalist view. References display in a table for easy sorting. Table View does not allow for sorting by Date added. When switching to Table view from any other view which displays Date added, references will be resorted by Date. All visible columns, except for Attachments, Issue and Pages can be sorted in the table header row.
Full view
Expanded view with details, displaying Date Published, Date Added and Date Modified, regardless of which criterion is applied. Select a tag to refresh the page with all references associated with the tag. Select the text link to view the full text, if available. Select any other field to open the Reference Editor and edit that field.
Citation view
bibliographic view. References are displayed in chosen citation style.
Click on the gear icon in the view options menu to select preferred style.
Missing fields which are required or recommended by the selected citation style are highlighted. Click on the highlighted area to open the Reference Editor to edit that field.
View Full Text
To view full text attached to a references, access it from the Reference preview pane.
When viewing a list of references in Full View, click on the link (if available) to download the attachment or open the link.
For some references, such as uploaded PDF files and HTML pages, full view of the reference is provided directly in RefWorks. The reader enables download of the document, and for PDF files, it enables highlight, draw, and add comments and notes.
Organizing references with Projects
Projects allow separate reference collections to be maintained for different research efforts.
Managing Projects
Click the arrow next to Project name on top of the page and click on Manage projects.
To create a new project, select Create a new Project.
Enter a name for the Project and click Save.
Rename Project
Click on Rename under Actions menu.
Delete Project
If Project is shared, it must be unshared before deleting.
Click on Delete under Actions menu.
Click Delete.
This action cannot be undone.
Projects can be accessed from Project menu on top of the page or from the Manage Projects page.
Setting a project as the current project:
On the Manage Projects page, click Actions > Set as Current Project.
Click on the project name. The project is set as the current project and its page is opened.
Importing into Projects
When searching in a database and using Direct Export, and in Save to RefWorks (StR) select one or more Project(s) to import.
Organizing References with Folders
Folders appear under My Folders tab in the Reference Organization menu.
The number of references in a folder appears after each folder name. Icon to the left of the Folder name indicates if/how the Folder is shared.
Full name of Folder appears when mousing over Folder.
Quick view of sharing settings appears when mousing over the sharing icon. this is useful when Folder names are long.
Assign references to an existing Folder by selecting checkbox next to Folder name.
Assign to new Folder by clicking + Create Folder link.
Drag and drop reference(s) into a Folder.
More actions... menu allows for additional Folder actions: add a Folder, add a Subfolder, rename, delete, or share. Move or Copy Folder to another Project. Find Duplicates in the folder.
There is no limit for number of folders, but subfolders can be up to three levels deep, for example: main > sub1 > sub2 > sub3.
Folders are listed next to each reference in reference list in Normal, Table, Full and Citation views. This can be customized by selecting Folders checkbox in Customize menu.
Click on the Folder name in any view to open the Folder.
Manage Folders Page
Manage Folders page allows for an easy view of Folders and folder information.
Access Manage Folders page from My Folders tab in Reference Organization menu or under Tools in Reference and Tools Actions menu
Importing into Folders
When searching in a database and using Direct Export, and in Save to RefWorks (StR) select one or more Folders(s) to import.
Copy References or copy/move Folders from one Project to another
- Select the references which should be copied to another Project.
- Navigate to Assign item on Reference and Tools Actions menu.
- Under Assign to Project, click Copy.
- In the the Copy selected references to another project modal, select which to Project references should be copied. References can be assigned to a specific Folder during copy process. If selecting current Project, references will be duplicated in the current Project, with new Ref IDs assigned. Click Copy.

Selected references are unchanged in current Project, and are now created as new references in destination Project; they are assigned new unique Ref IDs.
Copy/move Folders from one Project to another
- In My Folders section, click on the three dots More options... menu item next to Folder name, and click to either Move or Copy action.

When moving folder from one Project to another, references in current Project will remain, but they will no longer be assigned to the current Folder being moved. References in destination Project will be assigned new unique Ref IDs.
When Copying Folder, the current Folder remains unchanged in original Project and is created new in destination Project. References in destination Project will be assigned new unique Ref IDs.
Organizing References by Tags
Tags can be managed from several places:
- Reference Organization menu
- In reference list (in any view)
- In Reference View pane
- In Reference Edit pane
Tags are listed next to each reference in reference list in Normal, Table, Full and Citation views. This can be customized by selecting Tags checkbox in Customize menu.
Clicking on a Tag in reference list, in Reference Preview pane, or Reference Edit pane shows search results of all references with that Tag.
Use the Tags tab on the left navigation menu for quick search.
Add or remove Tags in Reference Edit pane.
Use Advanced search to find references based on Tag name.
Use Bulk edit to change Tags info for multiple references at once.
